Our Environmental Performance

The environmental practices of Tuscany Villas Rotorua have been recognised by EarthCheck; the world’s leading sustainable travel and tourism certification organisation.

EarthCheck is widely regarded as the world’s most scientifically rigorous environmental management programme, designed specifically for the travel and tourism industry. It looks at key environmental indicators such as energy and water consumption, total waste production, and community commitment to determine an operator’s standard of performance.

In April 2010, Tuscany Villas Rotorua successfully undertook EarthCheck Benchmarking, which resulted in our being awarded the EarthCheck Benchmarked Status.

Our EarthCheck Benchmark report states that “Congratulations, the Tuscany Villas Rotorua has passed the requirements to be recognised as an EarthCheck Benchmarked Accommodation – Motel. In addition to having a sustainable policy in place, almost all of the assessed EarthCheck indicators are at or above the Baseline level. From the data provided, four indicators are at or above the “Best Practice Level” which is an achievement to be commended .

Using the EarthCheck programme will ensure our systems and technologies remain in keeping with the latest advances in climate change science and measurement of greenhouse gas emissions.

Triple bottom line measurement of our performance and a willingness to submit data for independent assessment provides our guests with the certainty that our environmental credentials go well beyond mere tick box action.

Tuscany Villas and Conference Centre Rotorua is committed to strive to achieve environmental and social sustainability in recognition of the importance of environmental sustainability and a commitment to benefit the Rotorua community.

Tuscany Villas Rotorua offers guests luxurious motel accommodation in the heart of Rotorua. Being one of Rotorua's newer Motel accommodation providers, Tuscany Villas Rotorua enjoys the very latest that good design has to offer and has been crafted with the very best in modern facilities to make your stay a comfortable one.

Manaakitanga is a feeling, an invitation, and a responsibility. The responsibility is placed on the people (whenua) of Rotorua to provide guardianship over Rotorua's resources and an invitation to our visitors (manuhiri) to share in these resources.

Tuscany Villas Rotorua will comply with all relevant legislation and regulations, we strive to achieve international best practice in environmental and social sustainability performance.

We have appointed Delwyn & Neil Wilson, Building Services Project Manager, as Earthcheck Co-ordinator’s, who have responsibility for ensuring ongoing environmental performance, identification of environmental risks, recording and monitoring of impacts and implementing environmental and social sustainability measures.

Special consideration will be given to employing and empowering the local staff and wherever efficient and environmentally sustainable, products and services will be sourced locally.

We encourage staff to present our commitment to environmental and social sustainability and our Benchmarked/Certified status under the Earthcheck programme to our guests, suppliers, contractors, agents and wholesalers.
